Retaj Restaurant in Houston is the kind of place you almost don’t want to tell anyone about—because you want to keep it all to yourself. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth, the aroma of fresh grilled meats, and the kind of hospitality that instantly makes you feel at home. We tried most of the menu and everything we ordered was spot on. the food was juicy, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. The spices are deeply authentic, clearly made in-house, and you can taste the care in every bite. The sides—especially the hummus, garlic sauce, and fresh-baked bread—elevated the meal even further. What sets Retaj apart isn’t just the food—it’s the whole experience. The ambiance is clean and welcoming, the service is friendly and efficient, and everything feels genuine—from the ingredients to the conversation. If you’re looking for real Middle Eastern food that hasn’t been Americanized beyond recognition, Retaj is a must. Whether you’re craving comfort food or introducing someone to this cuisine for the first time, this spot delivers every time. Highly recommended. We’ll definitely be coming back—again and again.

Couldn’t name the dishes we ordered but hopefully the picture helps. Everything was absolutely delicious! The lamb appetizer and rice speciality were both succulent! Two of us ended up with enough food for 2-3 meals! The server was extremely friendly. Back covered patio is serene, and dog friendly. Will definitely find reasons to come back out here, or find a catering opportunity.

We got the Zarbian Chicken, Mougagl Lamb, and Hummus and Falafel. The falafel was so good. When it first comes out it’s warm and very crispy on the outside. Hummus is really classic and flavorful. I was so surprised about the huge portion of bread they bring with the dishes. It’s in a massive basket and is really quality. The Lamb was really flavorful and had a lot of good spices. The chicken fell right off the bone and was seasoned perfectly along with the rice. We also got the mint and lemonade drink and it was homemade, and absolutely incredible. The service was great. The people who run the restaurant are super nice and welcoming. You pretty much feel their positive energy right away. They definitely make it a great place to come to. I will be back for sure. Give these people your business! They work hard and are good people. They didn’t cut corners on anything we had.

Just go! So simply authentic it brings tears to our eyes. Lovely kind service. Malooh (layered bread) is to die for, fried fish, zurbian rice (with chicken) and falafels are excellent! I have to get my fix weekly! Reasonable priced, great portions. Spacious rear patio for hookah and lounging. Open late, relaxed vibe. Family owned and operated

Great food, great service, very accommodating host. Huge servings for an affordable price. If you're looking for a great Yemeni restaurant, this is definitely a place to go. Very few people as the restaurant is fairly new. Will definitely come back!

So far the best halal restaurant I’ve been to in Houston. The food tastes authentic. I ordered pampano grilled fish which was delicious and Tabouleh but it’s too sour for my liking.. Zurbyan is so tender that it falls off easily from the bone highly recommended. Hummus tastes authentic and really good. Chicken Fahsa is salty for my taste. Price point same in Dubai. The restaurant ambience is updated and looks well kept. The toilet are clean which is a plus factor. Overall experience is great. Highly recommended.

Hands down the best Yemeni restaurant in Houston. The food is authentic, quantities are generous, service is wonderful and the family that owns/works there are lovely. I was so excited to try this place our especially since they're one of the only ones that offer Salta in Houston and I'm so glad I finally it. I came with a large group and everyone loved every bite. I really hope this places grows and thrives!

Went here with my aunt on a cold Houston day. Was not disappointed! Their bread is phenomenal and very fresh. We had the fahsa dish and it came out bubbling. Very hearty and flavorful, we both really enjoyed our meal. Staff was amazing as well! P.S. I highly recommend the cardamom tea!
